Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus Breakfast Highlights VA Shipyard Jobs

Today, the Shipbuilders Council of America, in conjunction with the Navy League and the Aircraft Carrier Industrial Base Coalition (ACIBC) co-sponsored 2014's first Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus Breakfast. The event, Co-Chaired by Congressmen Joe Courtney (D, CT-2) and Rob Wittman (R,VA-1) featured a presentation from Admiral William E. Gortney, Commander U.S. Fleet Forces Command and was attended by ten members of Congress including, Senators Mark Begich (D-AK) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Representatives Elizabeth Esty (D, CT-5), Randy Forbes (R, VA-4), Bobby Scott (D, VA-3), Andy Harris (R, MD-1), Dan Benishek (R, MI-1), and Alan Nunalee (R, MS-1). In his remarks, Congressman Wittman announced that the state of Virginia leads the nation in shipyard jobs, with more than 63,000 in the state that adds over $5.5 billion annually to Virginia's economy.
